The newly built Mé College assembly hall in Sera, India

The image “http://www.thdl.org/images/s/collections/cultgeo/mons/sera/images/Pic-22-Mey-India.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
The Mé College is the smaller, but older, of Sera's two philosophical colleges (mtshan nyid grwa tshang). It's official name is "The Jewel-Island for Study and Contemplation" (thos bsam nor gling). The word Mé (smad) means "lower," and the college was probably called this because it sits at a lower elevation (farther south) in Sera's tiered landscape. Shortly after the founding of the monastery, the third holder of the Sera throne divided the institution up into various sections or colleges, appointing his senior students as preceptors of these different sections. Kunkhyen Jangchub Bumpa (kun mkhyen byang chub ‘bum pa, 15th century) was appointed preceptor (slob dpon) of the Mé section, and today he is reckoned as its founder.

In time, the Mé College evolved a fixed educational curriculum that focused on the study of the great Indian Buddhist classics. As was the case with the Ché College, there appears to have been a good deal of diversity in the types of textbooks (yig cha) used in the early days of the Mé College. Geshe Yeshe Wangchuk, a contemporary historian, for example, tells us that the textbooks of Gungru Gyaltsen Zangpo, the third Sera throne-holder, were popular for almost a century at Mé. Eventually, however, these early yigchas were banned in favor of the textbooks of Khedup Tenpa Dargye (mkhas grub bstan pa dar rgyas, 1493-1568). Although the chief mission of the Mé College was to instruct monks in the exoteric, philosophical/textual tradition, less than 25% of all monks in the college were textualists. The remaining monks were mostly workers.

IIIT HYDERABAD wrote,

Arun hav u really researched on the facts dat were published in the magzines. If not, then do some study and research on them whether they are really publishing the right material or not, coz it can put some of the guys in serious trouble who blindfoldedly follow dis given table and end up learning dat they had chosen the wrong one for the same value of money and rank.

U know this sort of table has always been enraged me a lot coz this sort of analysis never gives clear picture. When ppl are in ambivalent state they prefer to look for dese type of articles and waste many hours on net searching for the college which suits them best. And very hopefully they chose a college which has higher ranking compared to others. But this completely misleads them.So do some serious research before publishing it.

And this above table is completely rubbish.Howcome IIIT Hyderabad is in 24th position.Infact, It is among top 10 colleges in India.I m not boasting or bragging but dis is fact.If u dont believe ask a guy who has AIEEE(CBSE) counselling. Its closing rank is about 2,000 among 8,00,000 students that are competing. In terms of percentile a guy coming to IIIT Hyderabad has more than 99.8 percentile. Many of the guys who hav sucessfully competed the JEE wid fairly good rank are rather chosing IIIT Hyderabad than IIT.

8 Tips For College Students Wanting To Apply For A Credit Card

High school life is over. You’ve moved away from home and you’re starting a brand new chapter in your life with college. Independence feels great, but it’s sure to feel greater if you’ve got your own credit card, don’t you think?

8 Tips for College Students Wanting to Apply for a Credit Card

Here’s what you can do to make the credit card application process as hassle-free as possible.

Tip #1 Prepare proof of identification. Have your photos ready as well as all your valid IDs. Credit card companies will always have to verify that you are indeed who you say you are before you can proceed any further. IDs where your age is stated are also preferred because you have to prove you’re at least 18 years old as well. If you have any bills under your name, take them with you as well because they can serve as proof of residence.

Tip #2 Prepare proof of schooling. Credit card companies generally prefer to issue credit cards to students who belong to accredited colleges and universities. If you belong to such a school then you’re in luck. If not, you can compensate it by showing your previous records – if they’re excellent, that is. Just like when you’re applying for a driver’s license, credit card issuers also take academic and extra-curricular excellence as a sign of maturity and trustworthiness in your part.

Tip #3 Prepare proof of financial assets. Student credit cards tend to charge higher rates than usual, but you might be qualified for lower rates if you’re already working or you have money and a bank account in your name. Either way, make sure you can submit documentary proof of your work or assets.

Tip #4 Speaking of interest rates, the first thing you should look for in a credit card is the lowest possible interest rates. This might mean not being able to enjoy a reward-based credit card, but at your age, you might not yet afford the higher rates charged by credit cards offering reward points. If you see a 0% APR credit card, make sure to check how long the offer would last and what the standard APR is afterwards.

Tip #5 A number of credit cards allows you to apply even without a cosigner, but some of them tend to have stricter application requirements. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of submitting additional requirements, simply ask your parent or legal guardian to act as your guarantor when you apply for a credit card.

Tip #6 Always look for a credit card that allows you to manage your account online. This will allow you to check your account balance regularly and know when and how much you have to pay for your credit card every month.

Tip #7 There are a few additional perks that you might deem necessary. If you are fond of shopping online, look for a credit card that offers you fraud liability guarantee at no extra cost. Other credit cards offer you “thank you” points for being a prompt payer.

Tip #8 Now that you know what you need from a credit card, find one that matches your preferences and then submit your application. Remember to be courteous and answer all their questions honestly. You’re sure to have your application approved in no time. Have fun with responsible swiping!

Colleges

So its 1:30 am and there you are at the computer trying to refresh the email inbox page. The big test is tomorrow and your Professor still hasn’t replied back, but why? Contrary to popular belief, that your Professor wants you to fail, the problem could stem from the fact that your email never reached him/her. Hence, the purpose of this guide is to show students how to write an effective email to their Professors.

The From Field

Always use your University or College email address when sending an email to your professor. This not only assures the professor that you are indeed a student but also avoids your email from getting put in the spam box. Many Universities and Colleges now employ a system of only allowing emails to be received from certain domains anything else (hotmail, yahoo...etc) is either automatically put in the spam box or is forwarded to the Professor as a potential spam.

Example:

Astudent@university.edu

The To Field

This is the single most important field, if you mess up in here there you can kiss your email good bye. Avoid putting the Professor’s name with the email (A Prof ), since not all emailing system can handle this format. It is always best to send your email to the Professor’s University or College account, since that is the email account that your Professor checks, or should check, the most. And again before sending the email double check to verify that email address was typed correctly.

Example:

Aprof@universtiy.edu

The Subject Field

The subject field should be of the following format:

CollegeName-CourceCode-Title-Subject

CollegeName: Is the name of your post secondary institution (America Learning College, Boston University…etc). Yes I do realize that this may seem a bit redundant but it is important. Most Professors (Usually new Professors) teach at one or more Universities and Colleges at any given term, and the email from those institutions gets forwarded to one main address, usually their ISP email address. So to keep things organized its best to write the name of the College or University in the Subject Field.

CourseCode- Is the code name of the course (MTH140, CPS124, GEF345…etc). It’s best to keep the letters Capital and no spaces between the number and letter.

Title: Over here you type in the title of your subject. (Test 1, Midterm, Exam, Assignment 5…etc)

Subject: Over here you type in what concern or problem you might have (Due Date Issue, Missed Test Issue, HW Problem #45…etc). Remember to keep it brief, no more then 5 words.

Example:

Boston College-MTH140-Assignment 4-HW Problem #45

The Text Body Field

Try to keep things simple, clean and to the point. By that I mean no 2 page emails or fancy fonts and color, remember your first priority is to convey your message not to show off your email editing skills. Start off with writing the Professors name (Prof C.Mcgill, Prof U.Stan…etc). Move on to the subject of your email, as a reminder restate the Course Code and Title Field (During the Monday’s MTH140 class you stated for Assignment 4). The next line should state the problem or concern. Remember to provide details and avoid repetitions. Its best to end the email with a salutatory statement (Thank You, Yours Truly..etc) and use your name, student number and College or University name as signature.
