Indira Gandhi National Open University

Indira Gandhi National Open University is today virtually a household name. With its headquarters located in Delhi and a network of regional and study centres spread all over the country, the University has brought higher education to the doorsteps of a vast number of people. Today IGNOU caters to over 600,000 students. The desire to reach the unreached continues unabated. Most recently, the University has set up a project to take quality education even to the interiors of the North Eastern regions of the country.

Indira Gandhi National Open University has carved a niche for itself among the premier educational institutions both in the country and across national borders. It has been a pioneer in distance education and a recipient of the Centre of Excellence in Distance Education — an award conferred by the Commonwealth of Learning in 1993.

The University now offers 72 programmes. Its endeavour has also been to develop its own programme profile which is a mix of academic, professional, continuing and extension education programmes.
